Message from The President

Dear fellow members of the IAOMR:

Albert Einstein said, “Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value”.

I am very honored and humbled by the very fact that I am stepping into the shoes of doyens of the fraternity before me as I take over as the President of this beautiful and dynamic family. I shall fail in my duties if I were to not thank all the senior members and faculty who trusted me to take charge of this post.

While we have achieved a great deal, there is much more to do as we march forward. Let us move forward with passion, but also with purpose. Let our voices will be heard, our ideas be received, and the impact of our contributions to society be fully realized.

In pursuit of excellence for Oral Medicine and Radiology in India we have to have a solid platform like any other professional body, in the form of the Journal of IAOMR.In this regard, my priority would be to continue the great work being done to revive the JIAOMR and take to a pedestal wherein, it is not only a recognized national journal, but also one of International standing with a high impact factor. But this dream cannot just be fulfilled by a single person or a team of members, but each and every OMDR specialist and young post graduates by increasing the quality of research, reporting of cases in the form of case reports and in standard reviews of existing literature.

On similar lines to promote interaction and mixing of new ideas, I would like to propose the idea of a Blog on the IAOMR website wherein a platform is given to one and all to express their ideas, clarify doubts on diagnosis and anything and everything related to Oral Medicine and Radiology. This way we can ensure not just the exchange of valuable information, but also instigate more and more specialists to join as members and ensure more "hits" on the IAOMR website.

Another key area which we ought to focus on is the celebration of world radiology day, and recognition of world AIDS day and anti-tobacco day. Let these days not be just ordinary days, but days wherein we remember the work done by pioneers in the field, days when we remind ourselves of the arduous task we have at hand as members of the health care team. We shall all fail in our duties if we do not strive to make our contribution in the areas of HIV/ AIDS and Oral Cancer, which have sadly been reduced to clichés in today’s world. Apart from the diagnosis and treatment part, let’s look at them from a humane point of view, not just helping in diagnosis and treatment but in the actual healing process by means of providing palliative care, counseling, motivation and eliminating stigma and discrimination. We being the first to interact with patients in a hospital/ college setup have been entrusted with this task of making the patient feel comfortable while he is being diagnosed and motivating him to go ahead with any treatment.

As we devote ourselves to take IAOMR’s development journey to newer heights, we seek your support, blessings and active participation. Together we will script a glorious future for IAOMR. Let us together dream of a strong, developed and inclusive Academy that actively engages with the global community to strengthen the cause of innovation, research and excellent patient care.

I envision this website as a very important medium of direct communication between us. I am a firm believer in the power of technology and social media to communicate with people across the world. I hope this platform creates opportunities to listen, learn and share one’s views.

Apart from academic activities like CDE programs and conferences we will also focus on social activities serving the patients, spreading the wings of IAOMR far and wide.

This year we would also make an attempt at International collaborations with our fellow academies likeThe British Society for Oral Medicine (BSOM),British Society of Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology (BSDMFR), The American Academy of Oral Medicine (AAOM) and American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (AAOMR).

I invite you to join us on this epic journey. As you explore this Web site, I hope you will consider becoming an active participant in shaping IAOMR’s future and think about the positive impact you can make through IAOMR. The future is ours to create. Let us write the most glorious chapter ever for the Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology.
