Curriculum revision

Date : 26/08/2019

MDS CURRICULUM REVISION IN ORAL MEDICINE & RADIOLOGYMDS CURRICULUM REVISION IN ORAL MEDICINE & RADIOLOGY - MDS REGULATIONS 2019 (3rd AMENDMENT) GAZETTE of INDIA, Extraordinary Part-III, Section -4, Dated: 26th August 2019 The Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology is pleased to inform all stake holders that the scope of the MDS curriculum in the specialty has been widened to include several vital areas such as all imaging modalities of the Head and Neck (including, CBCT, CT, USG, MRI etc), use of LASER’s in the management of mucosal lesions and relevant aspects of Forensic Odontology amongst others. Consequently, training in the MDS program for the specialty must include these areas with immediate effect. This will ensure that the students are better equipped with knowledge and skills to cater to patient needs in future. The Academy wishes to place on record the commendable work done by the Curriculum revision committee members- Dr Anjana Bagewadi, Dr Laxmikant Chatra, Dr Chaya A. David, Dr Gopakumar R Nair, Dr Mohitpal Singh and Dr Shashikant MC over the last several years in this direction. The Academy requested Dr Gopakumar to participate in the intense 2 day curriculum scrutiny meeting organized by the DCI on the 31st of October and 01st of November 2018 where he put forth all suggestions. Such desirable curricular changes, in the scope of the MDS program for our specialty, were made possible by collective efforts of Academy members. While IAOMR thanks the Dental Council of India for making these changes possible it is prudent to mention that training in Tobacco cessation techniques and Geriatric dentistry also need to be included in the MDS curriculum as soon as possible. The Academy reiterates that enhancing the scope and quality of training in the specialty, rather than diluting this training by including non-specialty training is the need of the hour. I request all members to work towards these common objectives and desist from loose comments on all platforms of social media.
