Dear Members, Colleagues, and Students of IAOMR,
It is a privilege to serve as President of the Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology. Since its establishment in 1985, IAOMR has been committed to advancing education, research, and clinical excellence in the fields of Oral Medicine, Oral Diagnosis, Maxillofacial Radiology, and Imaging Sciences.
The landscape of healthcare is evolving rapidly. Digital imaging, artificial intelligence, evidence-based diagnostics, interdisciplinary treatment models, and personalized medicine are redefining how we teach, learn, and practice. As a specialty, we must adapt thoughtfully and purposefully to these changes.
At the same time, we must remain clear about our strengths and our scope. Progress does not mean venturing into areas beyond our ethical or legal framework. Our goal is not to do everything superficially, but to excel in specific domains where our expertise makes the greatest impact—oral mucosal disease, maxillofacial radiology interpretation, temporomandibular disorders, salivary diagnostics, orofacial pain, and early detection of precancer and cancer.
It is also important to recognize that every academic activity—whether reading, research, thesis work, publishing, or attending conferences—ultimately serves one core purpose: to improve patient care. Our learning, innovation, and scholarship must translate into better diagnosis, better understanding of disease, and better outcomes for those we serve.
While IAOMR is not a statutory regulatory body, our advisory role remains meaningful. We must use it wisely—by communicating evidence, highlighting clinical relevance, and advocating for the rightful place of our specialty within national dental education and healthcare structures.
In the year ahead, our Academy will focus on:
- Modernizing academic frameworks and competency-based training
- Enhancing research culture, innovation, and collaboration
- Strengthening community outreach and professional visibility
- Supporting members with advanced learning and skill-building opportunities
The future of our specialty depends on collective participation, shared vision, and committed leadership. Together, we will continue to build a strong, respected, and future-ready IAOMR.
Thank you for your support and trust.
Warm regards,
Dr Prashanth Shenoy
